Visitors Code of Conduct

Welcome! The New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science is a place for discovery, learning, and exploration. We are committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and respectful experience for everyone.

We ask all visitors to help us take care of one another and the Museum by following these guidelines:

Be Kind & Respectful

Treat fellow visitors, Museum staff, and volunteers with courtesy and respect. Abusive, threatening, harassing, discriminatory, or disruptive language or behavior is not permitted.

Explore Safely

Walk while inside the Museum and use exhibits and interactive areas as intended. Please do not climb on barriers, railings, exhibits, or other Museum property, and stay within areas open to the public.
Children and groups should be appropriately supervised by a responsible adult or chaperone.

Help Us Protect the Museum

Please do not touch specimens, objects, or displays unless they are clearly marked as interactive. Intentional damage, vandalism, theft, or misuse of Museum property is prohibited.
Food and beverages other than water should be enjoyed only in designated areas. Smoking and vaping are not permitted inside the Museum.

Keep Everyone Safe

Items that may pose a danger to visitors, staff, collections, or Museum property are prohibited, subject to applicable law and Museum policy.
Service animals are welcome. Pets and other animals are not permitted unless otherwise authorized.

Photography

Personal photography and video are welcome unless otherwise posted. Please be considerate of other visitors and avoid photography or equipment that blocks walkways, disrupts programs, or creates a safety concern. Commercial or professional photography may require advance permission.

Follow Museum Staff Directions

Please follow posted signs and reasonable directions from Museum staff and Security Officers. Staff may restrict activities or items that create a safety, security, operational, or collections concern.

Visitors whose behavior is unsafe, disruptive, or violates Museum policies may be asked to stop the behavior or leave the Museum. Serious situations may be referred to law enforcement or emergency services when appropriate.
